Make Glittery Magnets with Gems and Mod Podge

How to Make DIY Glitter Magnets

I should caution you: this is a quick craft in terms of actual work time, but start to finish time is longer because of drying time.

First, flip the gems over to the flat side.  Put some Mod Podge on a paper plate or palette.

Dip your gem in the Mod Podge to get a generous amount of glue on the gem.

Sprinkle glitter over the gems (or dip gems in glitter).  Use a generous amount of glitter, as you want as much glitter to stick to the gem as possible.

Let the Mod Podge dry for at least 2 hours.

Tap the gem on its side to remove excess glitter.  If you’d like to add another coat of glitter, feel free, but I found that once coat was plenty.  (Make sure you tap against something you don’t mind getting glittery.  Think: a paper plate or a piece of paper.)

Add a thin coat of Mod Podge on top of the existing glitter.  You may want to pour the Mod Podge out instead of using the Mod Podge Jar.  I’ve still got a little bit of glitter in my Mod Podge from dipping my brush.  Let that coat dry for at least 2 hours.

Once the Mod Podge has dried, touch the back of your gem to see if any glitter comes off.  If it does, add an additional coat of Mod Podge.  If not, you’re ready to put the magnets on.

I used a roll of flat magnets, but you could also use round magnets as well.  Hot glue your magnet to the flat side of your gem.

Use them on the fridge or ditch the magnets and use your sparkly gems for you next craft project.
